the shift shop progress report- week 1

    written by erinmhopkins

Okay, I can’t even with this program.  I just finished week 1 and I am seriously in love.  I was selected to be in what’s called a test group for the newest program that is being released in July. They hand select a group of coaches to do the workouts and the nutrition program to a T to make sure that these programs are effective and have real people getting real results before they are released. Being asked to be in one of these groups is a fitness girls DREAM, so I jumped at this opportunity.

I have been plateaued for a few months, and I use the term “plateau” loosely because I’m following the whole 80/20 thing a little looser than I should/normally would.  So I guess instead of plateau I should say that I’ve been about 60 percent committed to the program and 40% committed to having a really active social life, haha. You know what, it happens.  It’s life.  I needed something like this to kind of give me a swift kick in the ass, and then BAM, I got this incredible opportunity.  So here I am, one week into this incredible new program and my body is changing like crazy!

First of all, let’s start out with my confession.  The program was supposed to start on Monday, and I’m doing this with a group of 200 coaches. I got the materials on Thursday.  I’m usually a big rule follower when it comes to stuff like this, but I had just gotten back from vacation and I could see myself spiraling for the next few days.  Going back to that deep set lifelong pattern of “I’ll start on Monday”, so then blowing it out from Thursday to Monday.  So instead of letting myself spiral, I said “Fuck it, I’m getting on this shit today because I AM BEYOND READY.”  So, I’m on Day 8 and the group is on Day 4. Gah, I’m such a rebel.

This nutrition program is more dialed in than my normal program, and it changes every week, which is actually kind of like a fun game.  On my normal program there are quite a few ways to get a little cheat meal in, and this one is a little stricter, and again, I’m ALL IN.  I signed a commitment to this program and my results have something to do with the integrity of the program. I, of course, roped Miles into doing it with me, and it’s been fun for us to be in this together.

The workouts are freaking awesome.  The first week are 25 minutes workouts and then each week the time increases by 10 minutes a day, so there is a “ramp up”.  I felt pretty strong last week in the workouts and may have gotten a little cocky, because this morning I got my ass handed to me.  Miles and I were DYING! But here’s the amazing part, there is a modifier in every workout, so this program is totally accessible to anyone.

So, here’s the progress report.  One week and I’m down 6.5 lbs…talk about breaking a freaking plateau!! I haven’t weighed myself in months, but for the sake of this test group, I will be weighing each week, I’m going to measurements in 2 days and I’ll have an even better idea of what is happening. I feel incredible. I feel full of energy and completely in control.  I wore a pair of white jeans tonight that have been sitting in my closet too tight with tags on them for months, and now they are BIG…they are BIG ON ME…WTF!?!?!  This program allows for carbs (for now), but I’m not eating grains and I swear I am more clear headed.  I don’t even know how to explain it, it’s not just physical changes and new ab lines that are happening…it feels like a mental shift.

And then there’s Chris Downing, the new Super Trainer and my new boyfriend.

It’s okay, Miles is cool with it and I’m pretty sure he might have his own man crush. We got to workout with him in Punta Cana and I literally cried like a baby at every workout.  Seriously cried, like people probably thought I was injured because I was balling, but I was/am so inspired by him.  It was like a personal development session and workout combined, and he is truly one of the most incredible people ever.  I got to have a meet and greet/photo session with him on vacation and then he was on our flight home and we got to chat him up while waiting for our luggage. He’s incredible, and he and his program are going to change so many lives…I already feel it changing mine. Can’t wait to keep you updated on this journey and start my own test group when it has it’s official release in July! Here are a few pics and videos of us in action from this week.
